INGREDIENTS USED IN SKiN TRiBE SKINCARE

All ingredients listed in Skin Tribe products are certified organic. This ensures our products are free from harsh toxins,

the way nature intended! All colours and scents are compliments of nature. There is nothing synthetic here!

*We use known non irritating ingredients but it is always wise to patch test first on a small area of skin to rule out any sensitivities. 

Alkanet root (Alkanna tinctoria root)

The root of this plant is a deep purple/red colour and has been used for thousands of years in the colour dyeing process. Skin Tribe infuse the root into oil to extract her colour and the wonderful skin benefits she offers. She is used for her anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that may help with skin irritations. She has a pretty fragrance that is rich and musky resembling wild strawberry leaves and is responsible for the pink colour in our products that contain Alkanet.

 

Apricot oil (Prunus armeniaca kernel oil)

This oil is high in Vitamins A and C and omega 9 fatty acids and is likened to Retinol in the skincare industry as it can smooth fine lines and wrinkles. It is also high in Vitamin E and is widely used for its antiaging effects. It is similar to Almond oil but it not considered a nut; its oil is from the apricot kernel so is not considered an allergen. It maintains the skins softness and suppleness and is still widely used in Ayurvedic medicine (traditional medicine of India). Apricot kernels are indeed a nutrient hub with the presence of vitamins K, B17, phosphorous, niacin, magnesium, potassium, manganese and copper. It is widely used for its anti-aging and skin conditioning properties, keeping skin hydrated and nourished. 

Arrowroot starch powder (Maranta arundinacea root powder)

Arrowroot contains many beneficial minerals and vitamins such as zinc, iron, potassium and is known to provide relief from skin irritations. It is also a wonderful substitute for talcum powder as it reduces skin oiliness and helps with drying skin to speed up the healing process. It has anti inflammatory properties and provides a soft and silky feel when applied to the skin. 

Avocado oil (Persea gratissima oil)

This oil is beneficial for dry and chapped skin as it has antibacterial and ant-fungicidal properties. It is high in Vitamins A, B, C & E as well as iron, magnesium, copper and potassium. It deeply moisturises and nourishes skin and its emollient properties help keep skin hydrated all day long. It also protects the skin from the sun’s damaging UV rays and calms itching from skin irritations.

Beeswax (Australian) (Cera alba)

Beeswax creates a protective layer on our skin helping it stay hydrated as it takes longer to absorb because it is wax. It is a humectant meaning it attracts water that is vital to keeping skin moisturised and nourished. It repairs our skin and promotes skin regeneration and has anti -inflammatory and antibacterial properties. The beeswax we use is certified organic meaning the bees and their environment are not sprayed with chemicals which is important to Skin Tribe as it ensures the bees are protected and can thrive. 

Camellia seed oil (Camellia oleifera seed oil )

Camellia seed oil does not clog your pores and is a lightweight oil that does not leave a greasy feeling behind. It has been used for centuries by women in Japan to contribute to flawless and youthful skinIt helps to provide a barrier that locks moisture in keeping your skin moisturised and nourished. It is high in antioxidant and anti-aging properties and Vitamins A & E making it a luxurious additive to skincare. 

Castor oil (Ricinus communis seed oil)
This oil contains antioxidants, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties that are healing to the skin. It is high in Ricinoleic acid which is an unsaturated omega 9 fatty acid and very moisturising. It has superior lubricating properties making it essential in our lip balms. It also acts as a humectant that retains moisture by preventing water loss through the outer layer of the skin.

Chamomile flower (Chamomilla recutita flower)

Chamomile has anti-inflammatory, antifungal, antibacterial, and antiseptic properties. She contains essential oils and antioxidants that keep the skin protected from free radicals. Chamomile is hypoallergenic meaning it is unlikely to cause an allergic reaction, and is gentle enough to be used on babies or mature skin. Chamomile’s properties accelerate cell and tissue renewal, eases itchy and irritated skin, and reduces redness related to inflammation. It is very beneficial in aiding to relieve skin irritations in a gentle way. Her fragrance is likened to an apple.

Cocoa butter (Theobroma cacao seed butter)

Cocoa butter contains high amounts of fatty acids that keep your skin nourished and moisturised for the day. The fat in this butter provides a protective barrier that holds in moisture and prevents your skin from drying out. It is high in antioxidant properties that prevent premature aging of the skin. It is a good source of Vitamins A & K supporting collagen and elastin levels for healthy skin. It also smells like chocolate!

Colloidal oatmeal (Avena sativa (oat kernel) flour)

Colloidal oatmeal binds to your skin and locks in moisture, giving your skin a chance to rehydrate. It also softens your skin and soothes itching. Its anti-inflammatory properties make it great for people who have dry skin, because it helps balance your skin's natural pH levels.

If you suffer with Celiac disease it would be wise to patch test products containing colloidal oatmeal to test for any skin reactions. 

Elderflowers (Sambucus nigra)

Elderflower contains anti-oxidants that protect against sun and other free radical damage. They have also been shown to promote blood circulation and are packed with vitamins A, B, C, and E. These are excellent for making the skin firmer, improving complexion and evening out skin tone, making it a great choice in anti aging products.

Hemp seed oil (Cannabis sativa seed oil)

Hemp seed oil is made from the seeds and does not contain THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), that is, the psychoactive component of

marijuana. One of the omega 6 fatty acids that hemp oil contains is gamma linolenic acid (GLA) which acts as a powerful anti-inflammatory

while simultaneously encouraging skin growth and new cell generation. This can help to calm inflammation and irritation on the skin

including acne and some conditions like psoriasis, while keeping the skin nourished and moisturised. It is high in anti-aging properties that

benefit skin health and it contains high amounts of essential vitamins. It is considered a skin superfood in the cosmetic world for its amazing skin benefits.

Hibiscus flower (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis flower)

Hibiscus is known for its anti aging and pore tightening qualities. It helps slow down collagen and elastin breakdown which prevents premature aging.

Indigo powder (Indigofera tinctoria powder)

Indigo powder is obtained from the leaves of the plant Indigofera tinctoria. It is one of the oldest dyes known to humankind. The active compounds in Indigo provide skin calming and anti-inflammatory relief. It is a gentle herb suitable for sensitive skin.  It’s also great at reducing redness and irritation along with soothing dry, itchy skin. Indigo is naturally blue and when infused in oil her colour is also imparted.

Jojoba oil (Golden) (Simmondsia chinensis seed oil)

Jojoba mimics our skin’s natural sebum and is actually classed as a wax. It is an excellent moisturiser and balances natural oil production and is gentle and non irritating making it suitable for all skin types.

Licorice root (Glycyrrhiza glabra root)

Licorice has proven skin brightening effects which means it can help to reduce hyperpigmentation such as dark spots and uneven skin tone. It inhibits the enzyme known as tyrosinase that is responsible for hyperpigmentation. It also contains liquiritin which is a compound that helps to disperse and remove melanin, in other words it also prevents dark spots from forming. It also calms inflammation, reduces redness and it is a skin softener as it is rich in antioxidant compounds.

Mango butter (Mangifera indica seed butter)

Mango butter contains high concentrations of vitamin C and E, which stimulates the production of collagen. Mango butter also helps protects the skin from UV rays while providing nourishment and moisturisation. It has high concentrations of antioxidants to prevent excessive signs of aging and sun damage. It also contains vitamin A, an antioxidant, that stimulates the skin’s renewal process as it encourages the skin to produce new, healthy skin cells, while improving the skin's texture and elasticity. Mango butter does not smell like a mango as the butter is the fat from the fruits kernel.

Orange peel (Citrus sinensis)

The peel of orange can help to heal dry, flaky, itchy and acne prone skin. It also helps to hydrate dehydrated skin. The peel contains limonene, a naturally occurring chemical that has been studied for its anti-inflammatory and anticancer properties, including against skin cancer.

Patchouli leaves (Pogostemon cablin leaf)

The properties of Patchouli make it a must in our beard oil. It can relieve skin irritations, nourishes dry skin, and helps with oily skin and also dandruff.

Red Hibiscus flowers (Hibiscus sabdariffa flower)

This high mucilage content of Hibiscus enhances the skin's ability to retain moisture, which is a key factor in retaining a youthful complexion. The naturally moisture rich qualities of Hibiscus helps skin stay hydrated, soft and supple for longer, keeping dry, dull skin at bay.

Red raspberry leaf (Rubus idaeus leaf)

​When this is used topically is helps repair damaged skin from burns, eczema, psoriasis and rashes. It acts as an astringent that tightens the skin. Research by two companies (as published in the International journal of Cosmetic Science) have found this extract prevents skin dehydration and protects the cells from excess water loss. These findings mean it has excellent potential for anti aging applications especially for wrinkles and fine lines because of its high anti oxidant compounds.

Rosehip C02 oil (Rosa canina oil with Rosmarinus officinalis extract)

The extraction of Rosehip C02 oil is unique in that it is extracted by Carbon Dioxide (C.D.). The C.D. is turned into a liquid that acts as the solvent to extract the oil from the pulp of the fruit. The C.D. is then turned back into a gas leaving the oil without a trace. Rosemary oil is added for stability.

Rosehip C02 is classed as pure and many more beneficial components are extracted than in other extraction methods. It is highly concentrated, is prized for its anti aging components, highly moisturising, deeply nourishing, and helps with the appearance of fine lines and redness.

Rosemary leaf extract (Rosmarinus officinalis extract)

Rosemary has potent antibacterial properties that help protect your skin and may help to ease skin irritations. It can also help to tighten skin and smoothes fine lines.

Sage leaves (White Sacred Sage) (Salvia apiana)

This herb has antimicrobial, antiseptic, and anti inflammatory properties so will help to keep skin irritations at bay. Rosmarinic acid, luteolin and apigenin are all antioxidants in sage that seek out and destroy free radicals, and it has a herbaceous, bright and cleansing scent.

Shea butter (Butyrospermum parkii butter)

Shea butter has been used in cosmetics for centuries. It has anti inflammatory properties and softens skin. It is native to Africa and is widely used to provide skin protection from the harsh elements of the sun as it has a small SPF factor. It is deeply nourishing and moisturising because of its high fatty acid content. It has antioxidant properties and is high in vitamins A, E & F. Eczema sufferers tout it as an excellent moisturiser for dry damaged skin. It is widely used in the cosmetics industry for the skin's ability to soak up it's many benefits.
